Why You Should Have a Website
12 Sep 2025# A way to share cool stuff
Most of the cool internet people I know about were discovered via youtube. And you, dear reader, probably found me by the same medium. Youtube is just really good at suggesting content.
I don't like youtube. It's addictive, and causes many people to waste a frightful amount of time (even me (that's why I made PYSToL)).
But how can we find like-minded people without youtube, or social media in general?
The best way I can think of is to put lots of links on your own personal website. Hopefully many of the people I link to will adopt a similar principle, and link to even more people who they think are cool. This is how the internet was made to be. That's why it's called the inter-net; it's a net of sites all tied together.
If you don't have a personal website, GET ONE! There are plenty of guides, how-tos, and whatnot which describe how you can do this.
# Blog
Writing is a good thing to practice. It helps you clear your head by getting your ideas out into a solid state of sorts.
## The spread of ideas
By publishing your writing, whether it's tutorials, reviews, or philosophy, it spreads your ideas!
Tutorials are a great thing to share. They've taught me everything I know about computers and stuff. If nobody shared their knowledge on the internet then I wouldn't know anything about technology. I generally find written guides better than videos, because it's much easier to navigate around text and find certain parts than it is to scrub through a video.
Reviews are handy for deciding between one thing and another. Writing a blog post about something you've already tried allows others to benefit from your experience.
Writing philosophy is a great way of communicating your worldview. It can help you gather a community of like-minded people. It can start debate and spark conversation, which has the potential to lead you closer to the truth. It can make others aware of things they might have never thought about before.
## Community
God made us to be social creatures. It's fun being able to host events, it's nice to have people you can ask for help and learn from, and it's good to have friends to keep you on the right track.
As mentioned above, a blog can be a great helper for gathering a community with shared interests.
## Don't use "AI"
Please write the articles yourself in your own words. I like to know that what I'm reading belongs to someone. I like to know that it's something they cared about enough to put time and thought into it, not just some filler slop they prompted an AI to spew out. If you're going to start a blog, do it because you want to provide value, not because you want to make your website look full.
# Conclusion
By having a website you can help other people find cool stuff! By starting a blog (and writing well) you can help others learn while also forming a community of shared interests.
You could just use Wordpress or something, but if you're technically minded it's much cooler to write your own website from scratch. Anyway, that's a topic for another post.
